I turned a whole 31 years old this past Saturday.
I took a break from blogging since it was my birthday “week;” plus I was sick. I did get this cute from my neighbor to brighten my day.
My oldest gave me this soap from Whole Foods, with the help of dad, of course. I love bar soaps, so I thought it was funny she notices that at age 3.5.
I also manage to snag my free birthday drink (black tea with splash of lemonade) from Starbucks.
I was really simple this year and just requested or got things I truly needed like a water bottle, jeans, hemp seeds and kettlebells (on super discount).
I didn’t get to enjoy my actual birthday as intended but the next day the kids all napped at the same time and I was able to have 1.5 hours kid free.
That was due to going to the farm early that morning.
I was craving apple cider donuts and wanted to take them strawberry picking.
Unfortunately they were all picked out, but everyone enjoyed just munching on donuts and seeing the animals.
Back to the 1.5 hours kid free.
I decided to finishing decluttering my closet items; for kind of a fresh start. I got rid of a handful of items, including clothes/ items that were irreparable or I hand’t worn in years.I started this “project” earlier in the week. It took some time to really tell myself “okay this is what I really wear and this is what I truly don’t wear.
I was giving excuses for certain pieces. But after a week of seeing what I actually wear, it got easier.I wasn’t trying to have a set number of items in my closet. Here is what I have in my “summer” wardrobe:
- 2 Pairs of Jean [Jeggings]
- 2 Pairs of Leggings
- 3 Pairs of Shorts (in drawer)
- 3 Summer Dresses
- 1 “Jump Suit”
- 1 Light Sweater
- 1 Long Sleeve Denim Dress
- 1 Long Sleeve Denim Button-Up Shirt
- 4 Tank Tops
- 4 Short Sleeve Shirts
- 4 Pairs of Flip Flops
- 2 Pairs of Flats
- 1 Pair of Boots
- 2 Pairs of Canvas ‘Sneakers’
Total = 31 Items – See what happened here? 😉
I didn’t count my under garments, gym items or “nice” clothes in the above list. But if you want to know, here are the counts:
- 4 Bras
- 10 Panties
- 4 Pairs of Ankle Socks
- 2 Pairs of Sticky Socks (for Barre)
- 3 Nightgowns/ PJs
- 2 Pairs of Gym Sneakers
- 4 Gym Tank Tops
- 4 Gym Pants
- 4 Sports Bras
- 1 Bathing Suit + Cover-Up
- 4 “Special Occasion” Dresses
- 1 Pair of “Special Occasion” Flats
That’s it.
I had about 40 items in my closet before this decluttering, so not too bad, since the average American has over 60 pieces.
Plus I had decluttered my closet, earlier this year.
It’s a hard process; especially where you see hard earned money going down the drain. But now it forces me to be extra mindful with my purchases.
So far this season I only bought the canvas sneakers since the two pairs I bought a couple of years ago were really worn. I wore them spring, summer and fall pretty much daily for two years.I usually buy a new birthday dress but I choose not to and got the pair of jeggings instead from my mom. Something I know I’ll use more. #minimalist 😉
Try decluttering your closet today. You don’t have to go all out but maybe find a few pieces you haven’t worn in six months or more.
Wouldn’t it be nice to open your closet and have everything be your favorite piece?
I love this! I went through my closet and my kiddos after watching Tidying Up a few months ago and feel like a round 2 is coming soon especially for the growing kids!

It’s crazy! With my 19month old twins I definitely have do ever season. With my almost 4 year old, she has been a bit more stable so that’s nice! It really feels so good and I’m glad I really focused this time around 🙂
