ALMOST One Month In: Low Carb/ Low GI.

It’s been almost on month on my lower carb/ low glycemic index “diet.”

Eh, let’s just say I really hate the word “diet.”

Okay, moving on.

As I mentioned in THIS post, I’m following a macro ratio of about 10% Carbs, 25% Protein and 65% Fat.

I’m not being too strict and I’m NOT doing Keto, which is 5% carb amount coming from your daily caloric intake. My goal was to try a lower carb lifestyle which seemed to pair VERY well with eating foods with a low glycemic index.

I also just wanted a way to stop mindlessly chewing so much gum and eating ALL the leftovers from my kiddos.

Again, PLEASE consult your doctor before starting any new eating plan. 

Let’s recap what’s been going on, shall we?

Over the [almost] past month, I’ve noticed a few little changes:

  • Less inflammation in my joints.
  • I have increased energy.
  • I’m in a better mood.
  • My sleep has improved.
  • I don’t experience any mid-day crashes.
  • I barely even, get this, NEED pre-workout anymore for my works.


I will say the only CON has been craving salt. Early on my body just craved salt so I’d drink a ton of gingerale (which has 75mg per mini can).

As I researched, I found that when eating a low carb diet, your insulin levels go down and your body starts getting rid of excess sodium and water.

It’s essential to drink electrolytes as well as supplement with potassium (since it’s found in foods you wouldn’t be eating like bananas). I purchased THIS powder since it has both electrolytes and potassium.

My blood sugar has been more stable now eating this way.

Back when I was overweight, I was borderline diabetic. To this day, I still experience those ups and downs with my blood sugar, hence my doctor recommending I eat foods with a low GI.

Overall I think it’s a combination of things as to why I’ve been feeling so good; I mentioned that I was allergic to gluten PLUS need to eat foods with a low GI to stabilize my blood sugar.

On top of that, I’ve also almost 8lbs, which has helped reduce pressure and joint pain on my right knee, which officially has arthritis.wp-1634088160264I‘ve just felt amazing. 

I’m looking forward to see what the next few weeks bring.
