Habits can be difficult.
But if you are consistent and set your mind to it, you can accomplish ANYTHING.
For today’s post, I wanted to share FIVE habits that have helped me live a more simple lifestyle as a minimalist mom of three.
I was inspired by Michelle Reed for this post, one of my favorite lifestyle content creators on YouTube. Definitely check out her videos if you have not already.
1. CREATE a morning routine.
I truly enjoy waking up every morning and starting my day. I look forward to my cup of coffee and setting up my day for success. I’m usually out of bed before 6:30 am and head to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth.
Then I’ll make the bed, get dressed and see what I have to prepare for the day ahead. I’ll have to update my morning routine soon, as my previous one was for a non school morning.
2. Saying NO.
I used to have a major issue with this when I first started at my new job. Of course, I was trying to put my best foot forward, but at the end of a few months it ended up costing me my mental health.
Learning to say no and putting myself [and needs] first, has been wonderful. While money IS important to survive, I also need to make sure I am the best version of myself for my children.
3. Give everything a designated HOME.
This is SUCH a game changer when it comes to cleaning.
After my oldest’s first birthday, she had MORE things then I knew what to do with. Overtime [plus a house and two more kids later], I’ve learned how to develop a designated “home” for everything. It just makes cleaning that much faster because you don’t have to guess where something belongs.
4. LIMIT Social Media.
Last year I did a MAJOR declutter of my Facebook and Instagram.
I even went so far as to make a completely new Instagram account (with less than 80 followers, where I used to have over 500). It just feels so much better to follow [and receive notifications for] things that will actually positively impact my mental health and overall life.
5. SLOW down.
It’s so much easier to get caught up in a “go, go, go” mindset.
But just taking the time to slow down and sip your coffee, read a chapter from a book or even going for a short walk can feel so good.
If you have children, you’ve heard the phrase that “they are always watching.” They truly are, so be sure to lead by example.
It’s important to realize that you’re not going to build any habits you may want to implement overnight OR even within a week. You have to start slow and be easy on yourself when you “slip up.”Just remember to take things one day at a time.
